What is Red Light Therapy?

Red light therapy, or photobiomodulation, is a noninvasive and innovative treatment that uses red and near infrared wavelength light to provide a multitude of benefits without the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) light used in tanning beds. How it Works

Light in the red and near infrared spectrum penetrate within cells and targets cellular structures call mitochondria. The mitochondria are often referred to as the “powerhouse” of the cell because it is responsible for ATP production, i.e., energy production. Red light therapy enhances the efficiency of the mitochondria resulting in more energy production and fewer toxic byproducts. 

Many – even hundreds - of mitochondria are found within all cells of the body (apart from red blood cells). That means more efficiently functioning mitochondria can reap benefits in different cellular types throughout the body! In fact, one theory states the functional and cognitive decline that occurs with aging is primarily due to decreased mitochondrial health.
